We have lift-off!

5 June 2012

Poems for the BeekeeperI’ve been in Nottingham since 1984, so theoretically I could have gone to almost all of the Poets in Beeston readings. Robert Gent kicked the series off in 1983 (as an experiment to test the water) and kept it going for at least another fifteen years. Five Leaves Publications published Poems for the Beekeeper in 1996, a collection of poems from such luminaries as Wendy Cope, Carol Ann Duffy, UA Fanthorpe, Jackie Kay, Roger McGough, Ian McMillan, Adrian Mitchell… all of whom had appeared in Beeston Library at least once. And I missed it all. What an idiot! Still, at least I’m lucky enough to be involved in the project to bring poets back to Beeston.
